Have you ever won a freeroll-tourney ??

Hi !

I think that it is not easy do win a freeroll. Many players go all in at the beginning to have a good start, many players bluff a lot to "buy" the pot etc.

For me it seems impossible to win a freeroll without "big luck".

What is your opinion ?

when only 1000 player's that is a great way to win free rolls you can just sit tite for big hands and get paid only fish need more luck. i won the partypker free roll once with 7870 players i went allin 4 times in that tourny and it was limit holdem.

I will agree with you, but I did do well in one freeroll on PokerStars. I played in the Austin Martin freeroll about a year ago and there were 2009 players in the sat. freeroll and 9 people got a seat to the finale. I made it to the final table and won a seat for the finale. The winner of the tourney won a Austin Martin car from the movie or 200,000$. There was 1620 people in the finale and 200 got paid. Obviously the money didn't get good till the final table. I went into the tourney with the attitude of playing like a donk in the beggining and if I get out then owell and if I get some chips I will start to play tight. Well about 20-25 hands in I found myself playing really tight and thought that this is not what I planed on doing. So I get AA in mid position and make a raise. I get one caller and the flop comes 7 High with two diamonds. I make a 3/4 pot bet leaving me with about what I started the tourney with. The caller puts me all in. I think about it for a minute almost timing out and decieded to fold. The guy must have know that I had a difficult decision so he showed me 77 for a set. I can't believe that I did fold since I never would again but the end of my story is worth it. I didn't win the car but I did take 4th for a cash of 6k. So I do agree with you that freerolls are a luck to get to far. and even then you probably have a short stack compared to the people who go all in every hand and get lucky. Anyways I will be on here for more news and tourneys anyone thinks I should check out.

Cheers,
Seth

Ive won quite a few freerolls and enjoy playing them.Won some good prizes like the valentines one on poker heaven which u had a choice of 1500 euros or 3 day trip for 2 to paris(took the money).Won 2 x £500 bets on ladbrokes and lots of other prizes.Yes i do think u need luck but if u have a right strategy like mine it pays dividends in the long run.The strategy i worked out was while i use to watch the wife playing freerolls and quite a lot of trial and error.i have just joined the site and this is my first post so will post my strategy in the coming weeks for the forum to read.......lee
